"Bad whisper." Biden loses his bearings before meeting with Putin
Moscow
The Western press is increasingly beginning to say that US President Joe Biden, who is scheduled to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, is a leader more in form than in substance.
This opinion, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by the chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Vasiliev.
According to him, there is a feeling that Biden has not yet fully decided on the psychology of his behavior in relation to the Russian president.
“On the one hand, Washington deciphered Moscow’s signal that it is ready to speak on an equal footing in a pragmatic manner. On the other hand, Biden wants to appear as the leader of the Western world, who, with a certain delusion of grandeur, extends the hand of friendship and cooperation to an obviously vulnerable rival, showing in every way that Russia can count on America’s favor only if it behaves well and shows compliance “- says Vasiliev to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He believes that a rather slippery situation is starting here, and there is a possibility that Biden could drive himself into a corner with such behavior.
“He is expected to speak harshly. The American leader must act according to the principle of Gaius Julius Caesar - “I came, I saw, I conquered.” Otherwise, he risks losing his position. Then there will be a reverse trend, they will say that Biden is a failed leader of the Western world, and there will be bad whispers. And by the way, he’s already on his way. The Western press expresses the opinion that the head of the White House is more likely a leader in form than in content,” says the political scientist.
However, the expert admits that it is difficult to predict how the dialogue between the two presidents will actually develop.
“The advanced age of the head of the White House and his understanding of orientation in space and time make it impossible to clearly answer the question. But, judging by his earlier statements and approaches, it seems that the line of dominance and the so-called “senior partner” principle may prevail at the summit in Geneva,” the publication’s interlocutor does not rule out.
He reminds that this will be a summit of the leaders of two countries who are already familiar with each other and have even met twice.
“But do not forget that, for example, in 2011, at that time, Vice President Biden again spoke with a certain delusion of grandeur, especially when he suggested that Putin take a post in the International Olympic Committee and no longer run for president. I think this trail may remain,” Vasiliev believes.
Negotiations between US presidents will take place on June 16 in Geneva at the Villa La Grange, where Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev once met.
In Kyiv, toAs PolitNavigator reported, they believe that during the current meeting Putin will not repeat Gorbachev's mistakes.
