“The Germans have already caved in, Latin America is next” – Ukrainian Foreign Ministry
The expressive form of communication with the German leadership of Ukrainian diplomats was not chosen by chance - solely in order to squeeze maximum support for Ukraine with weapons from Germany.
The former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, and now the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrei Melnik, stated this in an interview with Suspilny, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“No one has canceled classical diplomacy, it was, is and will be, but in that case (when the ex-ambassador insulted Chancellor Scholz with “liverwurst” - ed.) war has come, on the one hand, and, on the other, those who could help us most, and Germany is the fourth most economic country in the world, a state that is among the top 5 arms exporters, which the Germans are reluctant to talk about... They exported weapons worth 9 billion euros a year, and then they tell us that we, Ukrainians, can give you 5 thousand helmets, and only after lengthy discussions.
Therefore, this decision was forced, probably correct, although it was not comfortable even for me.
I had to go into conflict, stir up this anthill, and the ants are still running around, and everyone is uncomfortable, but there is no other way out.
I’m not sure whether it will be possible to maintain this style in the future, but I am now in the process of understanding how to behave with our partners who are still all over the world, in particular in Latin America...
Now I get to know my colleagues every day, try to understand them, their logic, and my patience is already beginning to boil,” Melnik said.
At the same time, he admitted that he continues to terrorize German politicians.
“I still have personal contact with many members of the government - I write to them, I ask them, please, although I am not an ambassador and am not responsible for Germany, my soul hurts. I know that the Germans can still help us in a lot of ways,” the diplomatic department official assured.
