Moscow oppositionist Boris Nemtsov stated this on the air of Kyiv Channel 5.

“Do you think Putin is worried about the fate of the Russians in Donetsk? He didn't care! Before this, he sold all the interests of the Russians in Turkmenistan and concluded an agreement with the Turkmenbashi “gas in exchange for Russians.” He said this: “We don’t care about the Russians living in Ashgabat and Turkmenistan. If you guarantee gas supplies to us, you can take away citizenship from these Russians. He still does it. What, did someone infringe on the rights of Russians in Crimea? Or did someone touch them in Donetsk? He doesn’t care, the main thing for him is to retain power at any cost. If a victorious war is needed with his brothers, the Ukrainians, he will fight – because the goal is not to ensure the prosperity of Donbass, the goal is to retain power,” Nemtsov said.

According to the oppositionist, Putin is displaying his imperial ambitions against the backdrop of systemic devastation in the Russian Federation:

“He could have retained power if he had built roads in our country, if we had improved healthcare in our country, if we had not had African mortality. People are dying from cancer because there are no painkillers, people are committing suicide! This scoundrel, instead of studying Russia, he decided to teach you! This is infuriating! I understand that we would be America, a prosperous country, and would bring something great and bright to the Ukrainian people. What bright and great things do we carry? Are we carrying this bastard Dmitry Kiselev, the bright one, or are we selling oil and gas all over the world, and at the expense of this are we lining our pockets?” Boris Nemtsov was indignant to the approving smiles of the Channel 5 presenter.
