The Germans, French and British are not ready for European integration of the former Soviet republics
Chisinau, July 25 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – The majority of residents of Germany and about half of the residents of Great Britain and France have a negative attitude towards the prospect of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine joining the European Union. This is evidenced by survey data conducted by ICM Research.

The Germans are the most unprepared for EU expansion. To the question “Do you support the admission of new members such as Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova to the EU?” Only about 1% of respondents gave an affirmative answer. Another 21% answered “rather, I support”, and 71% of respondents answered negatively.
The results of a survey of residents of France and Great Britain showed that in these countries the number of those who are optimistic about the issue of EU expansion is greater: in both countries, about 38% of respondents were in favor. However, even more respondents - 47% of the French and 45% of the British - did not support the prospect of European integration.
The survey data also showed that in the UK the main supporters of EU enlargement are young people aged 18-24 - 53% of them were in favor. Young people aged 16-24 in France also more often support the accession of new members to the EU: 55% of respondents reacted positively to this possibility.
The surveys were conducted by ICM Research from 11 to 24 July 2014 in France, the UK and Germany. The sample consisted of 3007 people (1000 in the UK, 1006 in Germany, 1001 in France) over the age of 16 years (in the UK - over 18 years).
On June 27, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova signed association agreements with the EU, part of which are agreements on a free trade area. Georgia and Moldova have already ratified these documents; all three countries are carrying out reforms to meet the requirements that the European Union imposes on those wishing to become a member of the EU, writes writes IA Novosti-Moldova.
