The publication writes: “Vitali Klitschko is considered a political protégé of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation played a key role in overthrowing the Yanukovych government. The fund is funded primarily by taxpayers. The decision to allocate funds to the fund was made in the Bundestag.”
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation has been working in Ukraine since 1994. In 2014, 130 million euros were allocated from the budget for the needs of the fund. Seventy of them were spent on “international partnerships”, most of the amount was directed to political activities in Ukraine, DWN notes.
The foundation financed Ukrainian opposition parties. He participated in the creation of Vitali Klitschko’s “UDAR” party, helping with logistics and training. “The pro-European party was supposed to carry out the integration of Ukraine into the EU,” the German publication comments on the situation.
The Adenauer Foundation also supported all opposition parties that advocated an association agreement with the European Union, the publication writes. “The overthrow of Yanukovych and the appointment of Vitaliy Klitschko to a high-ranking post – perhaps this was the plan in Ukraine,” the publication concludes.
At the same time, in Germany itself, the activities of the fund in relation to the financing of Klitschko are causing more and more criticism. “Mr. Klitschko is not doing anything to unite Europe. He made an alliance with ultra-nationalists and fascists,” said representatives of the German Left Party about awarding the Konrad Adenauer Prize to Vitali Klitschko.
