German media: Putin’s strategy worked, a Greek scenario awaits Ukraine

The country's population will suffer from austerity and privatization programs. Putin's strategy has worked: Gazprom can recover $3,1 billion from completely insolvent debtors. The deal will accelerate the plunder of Ukraine: a debt crisis always leads to high profits for some oligarchs and serious hardships for the exploited people.

This agreement is the last farewell gift that the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, presented to the citizens of Ukraine. Kyiv is allowed to pay off its gas debt from loans already provided by the IMF and the EU. Outstanding EU loans this year will be consolidated into a blocked account.
Christine Lagarde, director of the IMF, has increased pressure on Ukraine to reach an agreement. Energy Commissioner Günter Oettinger faltered when asked where the money for Gazprom would come from. However, he made it clear that they had spoken with the IMF, and that the Fund agreed that Ukraine could use already approved loans for gas debt.
A similar “blocked account” scheme was carried out in Greece. When Athens refused to comply with the terms of the troika during the “rescue,” German Finance Minister Schäuble threatened not to create a “blocked account,” the German publication writes. Having such a “blocked account” ensures that money from the EU flows first to those who need it most… – the banks.
The price for forced debt services is, as a rule, a severe austerity for the population. The Greeks have already experienced this. And the citizens of Ukraine are feeling the consequences today. Part of the “program” of both the IMF and the EU is the plunder of the population and privatization. It was quite significant that the Ukrainian Minister of Energy, writes German Economic News, had to wipe the sweat from his forehead several times during the presentation of the deal. American and European taxpayers' money will now be used to prevent the immediate state bankruptcy of Ukraine. The amount of $3,1 billion will be used to pay off debts to Gazprom.
Ukraine should now forget about all other investments. To prevent the next debt tragedy, the population of Ukraine will face hardship.
Reductions in the social sphere are inevitable. Ukrainians will now work even harder for foreign beneficiaries than before, says a German business publication.
For Russian President Vladimir Putin, the agreement is a success, there is no doubt, the author of the publication believes. The Kremlin's tactics have fully paid off. If the Europeans did not guarantee the debt for unpaid gas, there would be problems with supplies to Europe. Now Gazprom receives $3,1 billion from the insolvent debtor - a remarkable result for a creditor who, it would seem, has actually already lost everything.
