The German auto giant drove the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry into a frenzy by recognizing Crimea as Russian
European companies cannot designate Crimea as Russian territory, because this contradicts the UN General Assembly resolution.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova stated this in her blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is how the department responded to the fact that one of the largest German auto giants, the BMW concern, designates Crimea as the territory of the Russian Federation in the navigators of its cars produced in Russia.
“We remind BMW of UN General Assembly resolution 68/262, which confirms the Ukrainian status of Crimea. All navigation maps provided by BMW must reflect the fact that Crimea is part of Ukraine. EU companies must adhere to a policy of non-recognition of the attempted annexation of Crimea. There is no room for double standards,” Jeppar said.
Let us remind you that the press service of the concern stated that they designate Crimea as Russian because this is required by the legislation of the Russian Federation. In versions of navigation systems for other countries, it is marked as the territory of Ukraine
“The BMW Group is constantly working to update the map data of navigation systems, including taking into account the legislation of the country/region where the car is purchased or operated. However, it is possible to change the default settings if the customer wishes to operate the vehicle in another jurisdiction,” the German company said in a statement.
