German business is terrified: Our places in the Russian Federation are taken by the Chinese
Germany's position regarding Russian Crimea will only change over the years, as happened with Northern Cyprus.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets, answering the question of what has changed in Germany’s position regarding Crimea, which joined Russia seven years ago.
“No, there are no changes, except psychological ones. I don’t know a single German, a resident of Germany, who would consider the return of Crimea to Ukraine realistic,” Rahr said.
According to him, at the same time, Germany considered the Crimean spring an “annexation” and “an attack on European values that need to be protected with sanctions even to the detriment of its own economy.
“Because today, it seems to me, Western companies suffer more from Russian counter-sanctions than Russian companies from Western sanctions. German companies cannot return to the Russian market and are horrified to see how their places are taken by the Chinese, Turks, and Asians. Despite this, Germany still takes the position that it will never recognize Crimea as part of Russia,” the political scientist emphasized.
He believes that this position can only change over the years.
“I have no doubt that it will change, but it will be a long process. After some time, Crimea will be looked at in the same way as Germany looks at the problem of Northern Cyprus today. No one recognizes it as part of Turkey, but no one is saying anything anymore,” Rahr concluded.
