German expert: The West would have already fought with Russia for Ukraine if it could
Moscow - Kyiv, April 16 (Navigator - Mikhail Stamm) - Ukraine's departure to the West in a few years would lead this country to NATO membership. That is why Russia has entered into an open geopolitical battle, says Alexander Rahr, scientific director of the German-Russian Forum, advisor to the president of the German-Russian Chamber of Foreign Trade, and member of the Advisory Council of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

“There are several reasons for this crisis,” the expert told Rossiyskaya Gazeta. – First: Ukraine is very dependent politically and economically on external factors. In its current state, Kyiv is not capable of making sovereign decisions.
Second: the Ukrainian nation was never able to become united. No other European country is experiencing such serious internal division.
Third reason: Ukraine has become the object of a geopolitical struggle between Russia and the West. Ukraine's departure to the West in a few years would lead this country to NATO membership. This prospect was and remains completely unacceptable for Russia.”
According to Rahr, if we lived several hundred years ago, then against the background of the clash of interests of Russia and the West in Ukraine, we would have seen a real battle. “But since we live in the XNUMXst century, war is impossible,” he summarizes.
