German left-wing MP Andrei Hunko: “Finally, they started talking about the Odessa tragedy in the Council of Europe”
“The fact that the Council of Europe found such clear and honest words and formulations after a long silence about the crime of May 2, 2014 in Odessa can only be welcomed.”

About it Deputy of the German Bundestag, PACE member Andrei Hunko told a PolitNavigator correspondent in Berlin. This is how he commented on the report of the Council of Europe, which subjected the Ukrainian leadership to severe criticism for the “failure of the investigation” into the May 2 case.
“The Council of Europe report clearly shows the political bankruptcy of the ruling elites in Ukraine, and finally points to the need for an independent investigation into the tragedy,” Junco added.
He also stated: “I had the opportunity to visit Odessa four times and meet with the relatives of the victims. It is simply a scandal that at least 119 victims of this crime have been charged while those responsible for this massacre remain free.”
Recall that Andrei Hunko has been lobbying the Council of Europe for more than a year to adopt this statement.
It is also worth recalling that the Council of Europe published a report regarding the events of May 2, 2014 in Odessa. It sets out in detail and without harsh judgment the chronology of the events of that tragic day. The report notes that more than two thousand nationalists arrived in Odessa, as well as mutual shooting between the two opposing camps.
At the same time, the report clearly states that after the fire started in the trade union building, people falling from the building were finished off on the ground. The report also noted the passivity of the police and rescue services. The Council of Europe criticized Ukraine for the progress of the investigation into the tragedy.
Europeans believe that the Ukrainian government has not given the investigation the attention it deserves and that it has made little progress over the past year and a half.
