German political scientist Alexander Rahr suggested on the Russian TV channel TVC what German Chancellor Angela Merkel might have talked about with Russian President Vladimir Putin during her recent visit to Sochi.

“I think she said: If we hold the Iran deal, I have a free hand inside Europe. We can try to do something together in Syria. At the same time, we need to find a historical compromise on what these “blue helmets” will be like when they enter Donbass,” Rahr said.

He believes that the issue of sending UN peacekeepers to Donbass has been practically resolved.

“I think it’s impossible to stop them. Putin agrees, Poroshenko agrees, the West wants this. Now we need to make sure that the Kosovo solution does not work out, so that this does not amount to the occupation of Donbass by the West. We need guarantees that the Ukrainian authorities would not enter there and start slaughtering these separatist rebels,” Rahr said.
