German political scientist: Ukrainian gas transportation system will soon fail
Germany supports the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline because the Ukrainian gas transmission system will soon fail.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on the PolitVera Internet channel.
“In Germany, experts understand that it will be very difficult to transport gas through Ukraine, because the pipes there are obsolete. They need to be repaired, but the Ukrainian state does not have the money for this. Ukraine should give these pipes into private hands to Russian or Western companies. But the Ukrainian state wants to sit on these pipes itself and make money,” Rahr said.
On the other hand, he noted, the refusal of Ukrainian transit is fraught with new burdens on the maintenance of Ukraine for Europe, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Europeans want to force Russia to supply gas through Ukraine, because this poor country earns $2 billion a year from transportation. It seems to me that this is the largest item in the Ukrainian budget. The West says that it does not have the money to provide for Ukraine; Russia should do this. It’s absurd, but we live in a world where the strangest ideas become part of politics,” Rahr said.
