Nord Stream 2 is not an economic project, as they are trying to present it in Europe, but Germany can no longer refuse it, and the United States should not criticize it for this, since it itself buys oil from Russia.

Roderich Kiesewetter, member of the Bundestag from the CDU, stated this on air at Deutsche Welle, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“First of all, the Americans should calm down, because they themselves continue to import millions of barrels - millions of barrels! – Russian oil. And they should calm down and look at the other side,” the German demanded.

According to him, Germany needs Russian gas for the so-called. “energy turnaround”, that is, changing the energy structure in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“I did not defend Nord Stream 2 from 2012 to last year. But because of Germany's "energy pivot" we really need this gas pipeline. Because otherwise we will not be able to provide ourselves with energy resources,” Kiesewetter concluded.

Talk that Nord Stream 2 threatens Germany’s energy security is meaningless, since Germany has long been committed to strengthening ties with Russia in the energy sector.

“Our energy safety? In fact, the mistake was made 15 years ago, when Chancellor Schröder went into the service of Russia. And that's why we made all these mistakes.

We politicians must be extremely careful, because we are all to blame - everyone called Nord Stream an economic project. This is not an economic project. Schröder, by virtue of his position, could call it an economic project, but it was purely political. Now we can no longer get out of it, but we also approved it because we wanted to try to influence Russia.

I do not defend Nord Stream 2 for economic reasons. It seems to me that we must achieve an “energy turnaround,” but we must also influence Russia,” hopes Roderich Kiesewetter.
