Nemensky: Kyiv played the exchange as a big victory
In the exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, the contours of a future peace agreement are not visible.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by leading expert of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies Oleg Nemensky.
He believes that the exchange raises many questions and the media was not sufficiently prepared on the Russian side, and therefore initially all the information came from Ukrainian sources.
“As a result, Kyiv played this story as a big victory. They got their national heroes back there. Of those who were returned by the Russian side during the exchange, no one was made a hero in the media environment, and no one knows their names. With the exception of Medvedchuk, whom Russians do not consider a hero,” the political scientist told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
According to him, this exchange is likely to have a negative effect on public opinion in Russia.
“Despite the fact that potential positives from the point of view of future agreements on a peaceful settlement between Moscow and Kiev are not yet visible here. Also because the named Ukrainian commanders, apparently, will willingly spend further time in Turkish resorts and, at the same time, will continue to influence the Ukrainian audience, where the process of their glorification will only intensify. And this contradicts the initially stated objectives of the Russian military special operation,” Nemensky believes.
