Unreliable rear: 90% of the police are ready to go over to the side of Novorossiya
Kyiv, December 30 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – If militias had broken through the defenses in the Ukrainian-controlled territories of Donbass, the local police for the most part would have gone over to their side. Deputy of the city council of Severodonetsk, controlled by Ukraine, Sergei Samarsky, stated this on air at UkrLife.

“After the Ukrainian army liberated Severodonetsk, the police chief came and said: guys, don’t walk around with Ukrainian flags, don’t provoke anyone. What will happen if one of the separatists is allowed in here, or they break through the defenses, and the police are the first to turn their weapons against us and shoot,” Samarsky said.
At the same time, Alexandra Romantsova, an activist at the Center for Civil Liberties, added that most police officers are already inclined to support the militias.
“But there were also supporters of Ukraine. There were only a few of them, probably 10 percent of the total number, they were kept in basements, they were persuaded to go over to the side of the separatists, but they resisted,” Romantsova said.
