The hated symbol of Donbass “Minsk” is becoming a thing of the past
Ukraine is minimizing all political activities in relations with Belarus, and this may mean that Minsk will lose its status as a platform for negotiations on resolving the situation in Donbass.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this, commenting on the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba about the suspension of diplomatic contacts with Belarus.
“As I understand it, relations between Belarus and Ukraine in the foreseeable future will be limited to such statements, there will be no contacts. Ukraine – separately, Belarus – separately. But this is unlikely to affect business; as far as economic relations are concerned, nothing will change.
All work of a political nature will be minimized, including trips of high-ranking officials, for example, the visit of our president to the forum in Gomel in the fall. It will not happen, and the forum itself will not take place. Most likely, meetings in the Minsk format will be moved to another geographical location, as has already been discussed earlier.
Of course, now these meetings are taking place online, as Kuleba himself stated, but I do not think that they will resume in Minsk after the quarantine. The topic of transfer is now popular,” said Alexander Okhrimenko.
