Neo-Ustashism drove a young Croatian to shoot a policeman and commit suicide
22-year-old Daniel Bezuk, who shot at a policeman in the center of Zagreb, committed suicide on the outskirts of the Croatian capital.
It turned out that the newly-minted terrorist came from a family of “veterans of the Patriotic War” and was inspired by the ideas of neo-Ustashism, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Bezuk took the machine gun of his father, a man of the seemingly peaceful legal profession, and arrived at the central St. Mark's Square in the capital Zagreb, where the iconic government institutions of Croatia are located.
He opened fire on a 31-year-old policeman on duty with one of them, wounding him in the torso and arm. At the moment, the man has already been operated on and his condition is stable.
Daniel Bezuku himself managed to leave the scene of the terrorist attack and subsequently his body was found in a park in a completely different part of Zagreb - in the Jabukovac area. Before his death, the guy left a post on Facebook, which was unclear to whom - either to himself, or to the Croatian authorities (if the target of the attack was the square where government agencies are located):
“There has been enough cheating and trampling of human values without responsibility.”
It is known about the young man that he was brought up in a family of “veterans of the Patriotic War” (participants of the Croatian ATO against the unrecognized Republic of Serbian Krajina), like many of his peers, he was brought up in the ideas of neo-Ustashism, as evidenced by his profiles on social networks.
In particular, at the beginning of November 2018, Bezuk published a photo in which he stands in front of the monument to fallen “veterans” in Bogdanovtsy.

In the photo he is wearing a T-shirt with the emblem of the right-wing national battalion HOS and the fan football gang of the group “Bed Blue Boys” with the inscription “For everyone who is not there,” and the photo itself is signed with a “poetic” phrase: “I will light a candle, I will pray until the morning about common sense and a better tomorrow."
In the same year, on Victory Day and Fatherland Gratitude, Bezuk published online a photograph of himself taken before the concert of a mega-popular far-right singer in Croatia Marko Perkovic "Thompson" in Clay, which he accompanied with a quote from his song: “Let us dispel the darkness so that tomorrow may dawn for us.”
In previous years, Bezuk published on social networks recordings of songs by “Thompson,” the “folk singer” Miroslav Škoro, who now heads one of the far-right factions in the Croatian Sabor, as well as recordings of shooting with sniper rifles and heavy machine guns. He captioned one of them: “I am one of them to bring down the Serbs.”
True, it should be noted that during the entire 2020, the young man made only one meaningless entry. At the same time, his neighbors note him as a pleasant young man, polite and always caring about the environment, in particular, on his own initiative, he collected garbage in the area.
