Director of the Ukrainian Association of Retail Chain Suppliers Alexey Doroshenko spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv agency UNN.
“The most important thing is not the fact of the antibiotic content, but the dosage. For example, in Europe, if we are talking about meat, then almost always, according to their standards and guidelines, they use antibiotics only to treat animals. But in our country antibiotics are used, among other things, for fattening animals. Therefore, in this case, the antibiotic from animal meat enters the human body…” he reports.
According to an industry expert, antibiotics are very often used in Ukraine to ensure that dairy products have a long shelf life.
“I cannot yet estimate what proportion of baby food contains antibiotics, because, as far as I know, no one is conducting mass research in Ukraine in this area. My colleagues and I began to study the issue of antibiotics in Ukraine quite recently. One study was conducted, and its results, I think, will be disclosed after some time,” he noted.
At the same time, according to the expert, there are still antibiotics in Ukrainian dairy products.
“In addition, experts say the following: you just need to look at what dairy plants purchase as components for production. And some dairy plants actually have antibiotics among their purchased ingredients. And, accordingly, they can say that their products do not contain antibiotics. But if they buy them, then they use them somewhere. And that means they are present,” he added.
At the same time, according to doctors, the quality of products in supermarkets is not controlled at the state level in Ukraine.
