Despite the help of the West, there was no breakthrough in the Ukrainian defense industry
Due to the corruption of the Ukrainian authorities, even Western material assistance did not help to significantly improve the state of the Armed Forces of Ukraine compared to 2013.
Military expert of the Institute of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Igor Koziy stated this on the air of the Ukrainian channel “112”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“How can you assess the material and technical support of the armed forces of Ukraine today?” journalists asked the expert’s opinion.
“Compared to 1991, we are clearly not in the black. If we take 2013-2014, we can definitely say that the state has grown a little, and this is not bad. It is clear that financial assistance (West - ed.) – also good for defense capability. But I’m not sure that this is good from the point of view of democratic political control - I’m afraid that there is plenty of corruption in the defense industry here,” Koziy answered.
“Therefore, please understand correctly, the issues of creating a powerful system of the security and defense sector are a very serious task. Unfortunately, over the four years of activity of those political forces that today constitute the “coalition majority,” we cannot say that we have made a serious breakthrough in this direction,” he stated.
