Igor Gorbatov, director of the Krupskaya Republican Library, spoke about this in an interview with the Union TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It’s nice to know that our institution and cultural institutions in general initially so correctly and competently joined the work on implementing the humanitarian program and began their active work. In principle, it existed before, but thanks to the program it became specific and structured. Two big competitions took place, this is “Donetsk region sung in verse”, which has already been held as expected, the results have been summed up. There was a final event, a book and reading festival.
People had a unique opportunity to be published, a collection was published, and authors from that territory received these collections. We are very pleased that people wrote about the war and drew parallels between today’s war and the Great Patriotic War. These sensual works tell us that it was not for nothing that at one time in a referendum the entire former Donetsk region voted for the Donetsk People's Republic.
It is very pleasant for us to read these works: they are more heartfelt, because people on the other side, fearing persecution, criminal convictions, and so on, still try to express their position through creativity. We, one way or another, keep in touch with them. They will come here in September to sum up the results,” Gorbatov said.
“It’s nice to know that the implementation of the humanitarian program by our institution is not in vain and not in vain. We left people a choice: “Please come to our institution, our fund is huge. Today it is 1 copies. Please come, if you want to read in Russian, please, if you want to read in Ukrainian, please. We have books in 600 languages of the world, you can read in any. And there are no barriers or infringements on anyone.
Initially, we thought that, most likely, people from Ukrainian-controlled territory would primarily seek medical care and education. But we now see that culture is certainly not in last place. And we try to do everything to make people feel comfortable,” Gorbatov said.
