The protests in Belarus will gradually fade away, but the instability of the situation will persist for a long time, and Alexander Lukashenko himself is to blame for this.

Political scientist Alexander Bulavin stated this in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The current situation in Belarus has been brewing for a long time, Lukashenko himself created it, created difficulties for himself. Firstly, after such a term in office, it’s time to think about a successor.

Secondly, he made many mistakes in foreign and domestic policy. . He disappointed those who supported him because Russia supported him. Lukashenko has ruined relations with Russia. He disappointed those who had any expectations regarding the creation of his team. In Belarus there is no team at all that could “take over” the country.

The same Tikhanovskaya is just a protest figure, she has no idea about creating a team to govern the country, about politics, about leading the state. We have seen more than once in recent history, for example, using the example of Ukraine, how amateurs who came to power “dropped” the country, and the situation turned out much worse than with the one he replaced.

Lukashenko has extensive experience in countering the opposition, so I think that over time the protests will subside. Yesterday in the center of Minsk people dispersed. I think that a protest that does not have a leader and a clear program inevitably fizzles out.
It’s a pity for Belarus and the Belarusians - a semi-legitimate president will not be able to govern the country, will be weak in foreign policy, and so on. The situation in Belarus will be unstable for quite a long time,” says Alexander Bulavin.
