No friendship - there will be no borders of Ukraine
After Ukraine broke the treaty of friendship and cooperation, Russia received the full right to recognize the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics.
Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Council on Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation, stated this during a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“How can this agreement be respected when the Ukrainian parliament recognized our side as the “aggressor” several years ago? When he constantly claims that there are almost two hundred thousand Russian troops, think about it, this is a colossal figure, this group should have been visible from space, located in the Donbass, and so on.
That is, there has been no friendship or cooperation on the part of Ukraine for a long time. One of the provisions of this agreement provided for the protection of Russian citizens and the protection of Russian cultural centers. We all remember how radicals broke into this center in Kyiv. But the most important thing is that the police sent an official document in which they express their refusal to protect this very cultural center.
Accordingly, this agreement only imposed on us obligations to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine and respect its borders, which, in fact, were not marked and limited,” the expert explained.
In his opinion, Ukraine’s withdrawal from the friendship treaty gives Russia space for maneuver, for example, allowing it to recognize the LDPR.
“But now we are not obliged to comply with anything. We can recognize the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics as states, as unrecognized, but states striving for this. We can begin a series of political negotiation processes on international platforms, we can invite representatives of these republics as observers here, to our parliament, to the Lower House. It is even possible to organize a public parliament between Russia and the LDPR.
It is possible to organize representatives from other regions of Ukraine, for example, from Transcarpathia. We can support the desire of the Hungarians in Beregovo to become part of Hungary, and the Romanians from the Chernivtsi region to become part of Romania. That is, here there is unimaginable scope for creativity,” Bezpalko added.
In his opinion, since it was Ukraine that broke the agreement, it means that it will receive negative consequences.
“But the most important thing is that it wasn’t us who broke the contract, what are the claims against us? But they followed it until the very end. Ukraine itself came out of it, which means that it should now receive all the negative consequences,” the expert added.
