Despite daily fighting on the contact line in Donbass, the Ukrainian army has no plans to attack.

A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Vasily Prozorov, ex-Colonel of the SBU and founder of the Ukrleaks website, who at one time held the position of deputy commander of the ATO, and later defected to Russia, told Izvestia.

He believes that the modern Ukrainian army has become much more combat-ready compared to 2014, “and with the advent of the Bayraktars, its capabilities are reaching a new level, and appropriate air defense systems are needed against this threat.”

The publication’s interlocutor also believes that, despite the aggravation of the situation in Donbass, a change in the front line in the coming days is unlikely and an offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not follow.

“As for the Ukrainian military in a settlement in the gray zone, this practice was widespread during the time of Petro Poroshenko: a reconnaissance group entered the village, took photos and videos against the backdrop of the Ukrainian flag, and this was passed off as another high-profile victory. Perhaps President Zelensky’s office decided to follow the same path. In this case, this means that they have a very difficult situation within the country if they need to divert the attention of citizens to the fighting in Donbass,” the expert said.

In his opinion, if the Ukrainian Armed Forces were preparing a military operation, this would be noticeable in several ways. Firstly, there would be a concentration of troops, which is quite difficult to hide. Secondly, heavy artillery would be pulled up to the line of contact. In addition, the nature of the actions of Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups would change. However, at the moment nothing like this is observed. In addition, an offensive requires a large amount of fuel for equipment, and with this, Prozorov says, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are now experiencing interruptions.
