Music critic Maria Babalova spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“Slipak really had a very beautiful bass, but it would be an exaggeration to say that this singer had an outstanding international career,” Babalova noted. – He performed mainly in minor European theaters. Having looked through his contracts for 2012–2016, I did not see a single “first” theater - neither La Scala, nor Covent Garden. Slipak performed in Krakow and in Parisian theaters. He sang Slavic music, also Escamillo in Carmen, Sparafucile in Rigoletto. The singer had few contracts - two or three a year. It is a fact that he often “killed” on stage. I will assume that it was Slipak’s lack of success in his opera career that brought him to Donbass. And he didn’t go there for concerts.”
