“Incredible cuckoldism”: the RFU decided to remain in UEFA, which expelled Russian teams
It became known that the Russian Football Union (RFU) at the end of 2022 paid for the stay in UEFA for the next year.
This fact outraged the former speaker of the DPR Foreign Ministry Konstantin Dolgov.
"Oh my God. What incredible cuckoldry performed by the RFU. Our national team and our clubs were thrown out of all tournaments by UEFA, and Dyukov (RFU President - ed.) and the company continue to pay them money. By the way, from the Russian budget – that is, our money is with you,” Dolgov wrote in his TG channel.
He promised to send inquiries to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation regarding the fact of “sponsoring organizations unfriendly to Russia.”
Military expert Boris Rozhin believes that the reason for the unprecedented generosity of the RFU was the creation of a working group by UEFA to “return Russian clubs to tournaments.”
“Behind-the-scenes trading on this issue obviously continues, which postpones the issue of Russian football moving to Asia,” Rozhin wrote.
The advisability of the RFU moving to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) was discussed back in March, immediately after FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian clubs and the national team from participating in tournaments.
In December, the head of the RFU, Alexander Dyukov, called the transition to the AFC an opportunity for Russia to return to international tournaments. The vote on the transition was scheduled to take place on December 31. However, instead of voting for the RFU to join the Asian Football Federation, it created a working group with UEFA.
Such a decision may be due to homespun material motives. Even the winner of the Asian Championship is entitled to 4 million euros, and the club that was eliminated from the playoffs of the UEFA Champions League qualification receives a million more.
In March 2022, FIFA initially wanted to limit itself to depriving the Russian national team of the flag and anthem, but protests from the national teams of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden prevented this from happening. Perhaps UEFA will return to the option of demonstrative humiliation. The results will be known by the end of March.
A source from "Caution Media", close to the RFU, said that it is too early to talk with confidence about returning to the world and European football families.
