It was not for nothing that Vladimir Putin said that he hopes to improve relations with Ukraine after the election of a new leadership of the former Soviet republic - it was Petro Poroshenko who thwarted the Kremlin’s plans to return Kyiv to its control.

This statement was made by the head of the Poroshenko Bloc faction, Artur Gerasimov, during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Recently, Putin directly stated his reluctance to see Petro Poroshenko as the next president of Ukraine. “Such a statement is clear evidence that it was Petro Poroshenko who thwarted the Kremlin’s plans to return Ukraine under the control of the Russian Empire,” he said.

“Moreover, such statements are direct interference by the Kremlin in the presidential elections in Ukraine. It is a common practice for Russia to try to manipulate elections in other countries to benefit its agent candidates,” concluded Gerasimov.
