“It’s impossible to see”: in Kyiv they complain about the “anti-satellite umbrella” over Sevastopol
Russia is beginning to use measures to shield important facilities from satellite espionage. Space exploration analyst Alexander Kolesnik said this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Countering [spy satellites] is also being developed in the leading space countries - the USA, China, Russia. In order to blind such satellites while flying over a specific area of the earth. These are laser installations that must be turned on at the moment when the satellite flies over this territory. There are already first samples, and soon such equipment will be ready for use,” Kolesnik said.
However, he emphasized that electronic warfare systems help against some spy satellites, and Russia has already learned to hide behind them.
«The Russians made an anti-satellite umbrella over the temporarily occupied Sevastopol using electronic warfare equipment. There was even a picture online - a square with noise over the bay of Sevastopol. Because of this, it is impossible to view this area from space,” the analyst added.
