This opinion was expressed by the former head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We must admit that all our technological capabilities and lags were the common capabilities and lags of the Soviet Union. Therefore, when we say that all the backwardness is bad from the “soviet”, and all Ukrainian technologies have been wasted, this is true, but only partially. I'm sure all these opportunities were lost in 1991. The choice in favor of independence predetermined that sooner or later Ukraine would stop producing its missiles and building aircraft carriers,” the expert emphasized.
“I’m from Nikolaev myself and I understand that we don’t need aircraft carriers, even if we had the most honest government. When choosing independence, Ukrainian society had to logically immediately choose a certain development project like Poland, where they assemble some machines, machines, and make many good things that are not made here. But high-tech products, which require huge investments, are only possible in a great power. And Ukraine ceased to be a great power as soon as it left the Soviet Union,” Voloshin concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense admitted that Ukraine is not able produce modern weapons, and the ceiling of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex is the Dozor armored car and the Hammer mortar.
