Participants in the action were Ukrainian feminists and activists from a number of left-wing organizations who supported them. Some young people came wearing skirts, which they said symbolized solidarity with women. It is worth saying that not all passers-by (especially older ones) reacted with understanding to the slogans of the march and looked at what was happening with obvious bewilderment on their faces.
Only the most exalted and, rather, not entirely sober ones played figs.
“March 8 for us is a day of struggle for women’s rights, and not just a holiday of spring and beauty,” emphasized those gathered on Arsenalnaya Square, where, in fact, the march along Grushevsky Street started.
In front of the column, beating drums, marched girls in bright, catchy outfits, periodically chanting: “No to kitchen slavery!”, “My body is my business!”, “Feminism - in every home!”, “No discrimination based on sexual orientation! ", "Sex - yes! No to sexism!”, “Cuisine and fashion are not freedom!”, “No to sexism! No to capitalism!
Among the visual propaganda there were anti-fascist and anti-militarist paraphernalia, as well as a poster with the inscription “We refuse to give birth for the church, state, nation, army.”
The first stop along the route is the monument to the Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka in Khreshchaty Park, where the rally took place. The event finished on European Square.
At the rally, Ukrainian feminists complained about the behavior of men invading women's personal space and spanking their asses.
“Having heard “No,” they continue to ask “Why?” They may even grab your hand,” the activist emphasized. – Some may even stalk. We also often encounter offensive things: patting, pardon me, on the ass, some indecent gestures, shouting. It's almost impossible to do anything about it. If you try to explain something, he will look at you with innocent eyes and say: “Oh, don’t be angry, you probably have PMS.” Some say that this is a compliment, but in fact it is a devaluation of our feelings and penetration into our extra space, which is a priori inviolable.”
