Not a day without grudges: The head of the EU Delegation advised Ukrainians to forget about Nord Stream 2
Instead of demanding that the EU stop Nord Stream 2, Ukraine should carry out the correct unbundling of Naftogaz, i.e. introduce representatives from Europe into the management of the new transit company that will be spun off from it.

The head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Hugues Mingarelli, said this at the Third Gas Forum, which is currently taking place in Kiev, answering the question of whether the European Commission can help stop the Nord Stream 2 project, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Many people see it as a commercial project, and therefore they believe that the commission should not interfere in this matter at all. This is a purely commercial project, so companies must decide whether to develop this pipeline or not.
Others say the project cannot fit into the EU's energy strategy, one of whose main goals is to diversify supplies. And the commission has asked for a mandate from member states to negotiate with Russia and Gazprom to ensure that these gas pipelines, if built, do not operate in some kind of vacuum, so that they comply with the requirements of the Third Energy Package,” said the European diplomat.
According to him, discussions around Nord Stream 2 continue and he cannot say when these issues will be resolved.
“What can I tell you - forget about Nord Stream 2,” Mingarelli suggested. If we want to create the appropriate conditions. In order for Ukraine to remain a gas transit country, it is very important to disaggregate Naftogaz in the right way. And to do this, you need to try to attract representatives of European companies to the management of the new transport operator. And this will help maintain Ukraine as the largest transit route for gas. this is very important, and it already depends on our Ukrainian friends. This can be done without much difficulty. We know that European companies are interested in taking part in such a gas transit company,” he said.
