No treatment, no communion: political prisoner Taksyur remains in inhumane conditions
The Kyiv publicist, satirist and TV presenter Yan Taksyur, who was arrested by SBU officers and charged with “treason,” is not provided with medical care, despite having cancer.
Kiev blogger and publicist Miroslava Berdnik reported this on her Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Earlier, on the 18th, she said that Taksyur was denied hospitalization, even though he lost consciousness from pain.
“Today Yan Taksyur lost consciousness from pain in the pre-trial detention center. There was a doctor who said that he would not be sent to any hospital. Let me remind you that Yan Ilyich is a cancer patient,” Berdnik wrote.
She added that such an attitude could well be qualified as torture, and in this situation the arrested person may simply not live to see trial.
However, the day before she managed to contact Taksyur.
“Yan Taxyur called. He's holding on. But all the diseases worsened and became inflamed. His wife gave him the medicine, but there was no doctor who didn’t want to send him to the hospital; his neighbors promised to give him an injection. He sends his regards and greetings to everyone and prays for everyone.
I supported as best I could. I said that the bishops and priests are praying for him, trying to support him as much as possible, but temptations arise that have to be overcome,” Berdnik wrote.
At the same time, she was indignant that in addition to the fact that Taksyur was not given the opportunity to meet with a lawyer, a priest was not allowed to see him to receive communion.
“People in Covid wards can take communion, soldiers at the front can, prisoners in prisons and colonies can. But people who are in a pre-trial detention center, whose guilt has not been proven in court, CAN’T!” – stated the publicist.
