“Neither Ukraine, nor Russia”: German political scientist proposes to give autonomy to Donbass
The LDPR can neither be returned to Ukraine nor annexed to the Russian Federation.
This opinion was expressed in a conversation on Ukrlife.TV by German political scientist Alexander Rahr, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I really don’t see how a region with these people who (well, let’s speak objectively) were besieged (here, in the West they say by Russia, there they say they were under the bombing of the Ukrainian army), how they can simply be integrated into Ukraine again. And this region also cannot go to Russia according to geopolitical and generally European principles. Therefore, autonomy is needed so that it is truly accepted and accepted by everyone, perhaps without the federalization of Ukraine, which Ukrainians are afraid of. But this is the only way, it seems to me,” the expert believes.
“This is not some naive, stupid path that then Foreign Minister Steinmeier came up with. In this situation, based on a simple statement of forces, it is necessary to make some historical decisions so that people do not continue to die there. In order to really, firstly, preserve all opportunities for the future restoration of the sovereignty of Ukraine, but, at the same time, in order to stop the danger of a military clash,” Rahr concluded.
