Attempts to raise the issue of repeating the “Crimean scenario” for Belarus, including during negotiations between the leadership of the two countries scheduled for today, - “immediately makes you want to send three letters.”

Minsk political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky writes about this on Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The expert predicts that during today’s negotiations, Alexander Lukashenko is unlikely to achieve the so-called “compensation” for the cessation of supplies of Russian oil at a preferential price, which previously allowed Minsk to process it and sell fuel to Ukraine, including for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which is conducting a punitive operation in the Donbass.

“Belarus will not receive significant discounts on gas and compensation for the tax maneuver from the Russian Federation. T.N. “a compromise” will probably be a decision to allocate a Russian loan of $2,5-3 billion to Minsk, or a deferment of payments on existing debt obligations, which will help to relatively calmly resolve pressing social and economic issues in the focus of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections,” – predicts the Belarusian expert.

Shpakovsky also notes the possibility that part of the elite in Moscow may be inclined to support the weakening of Lukashenko's power in Belarus by creating a pro-Russian opposition.

“If such precedents arise, the Belarusian state will simply crush this kind of “oppositionist”, as well as representatives of the pro-Western camp. In theory, for Lukashenko’s successful positioning (“For a strong and sovereign Belarus”), some clinical idiot demanding the creation of a “Belarusian federal district,” immediate “unification,” stopping the teaching of the Belarusian language in schools, etc., will be very useful,” – the author warns.

When asked why in Belarus the issue of repeating the “Crimean scenario” is equated in advance to a criminal offense, Shpakovsky gives the following arguments:

“The Republic of Belarus is a sovereign state. This happened after the collapse of the USSR, which our people voted against in a referendum. However, having set off on a free voyage, Belarusians created their own independent country and there is a consensus in our society regarding its further sovereign development. What kind of “reunification” can we talk about if Belarus has never been part of the Russian Federation? In this case, this is not “reunification”, but an Anschluss proposal,” he claims.

Lukashenko has practically neutralized pro-Western street protests, but Western structures that indoctrinate young people continue to operate in Belarus

“Belarusians have their own state. This is my Motherland - the Republic of Belarus, the sovereign power of the Belarusian people. What's unclear here? We have allied relations with Russia and the best way to spoil them is to continue to propose the “Crimean scenario”, “to become part of Russia with six regions”, etc. This is not perceived here, it immediately makes you want to send three letters. Therefore, I hope that decision-makers in Moscow will be smart enough to understand the difference between union relations and Anschluss. Otherwise, everything can be brought to final destruction and war,” added Shpakovsky.

“Crimea was a foreign body within Ukraine, I felt uncomfortable there and wanted reunification with Russia. At the same time, Belarusians feel quite familiar and comfortable in their own state, and in principle our people have no reason to renounce independence. Even conversations of this kind from the point of view of a person living in Minsk look strange, to put it mildly. You’re not proposing to “reunite” Finland, for example,” the author continued.

Rally of Belarusian Svidomo against the opening of a Russian military base

“You still don’t understand. We have our own country. Like the Germans, Czechs, Austrians, Slovaks, etc. Why doesn’t Germany have the idea of blaming Luxembourg for “independence”, and allied relations work out?” – Shpakovsky addressed the supporters of the “Crimean scenario”.

Let us recall that “union” Belarus has still not officially recognized the Russian status of Crimea, continues to hold “integration forums” and host the ruling Ukrainian elite.
