“There is no legal problem with the recognition by our Western partners of the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation. There is no political will, there is an obvious desire to use this situation in the line that was pursued by the West under the leadership of the United States long before Ukraine. Lines to contain the Russian Federation,” Lavrov said.
He noted that the reunification of Crimea with Russia “took place in full accordance with international law.”
“The Ukrainian state deprived the Crimean people of the right to self-determination. Therefore, holding a referendum is more than legal. Our Western partners are running like hell from any proposal to analyze what happened in Crimea through the prism of what they did in Kosovo,” Lavrov said.
