The Netherlands did not let the anti-Russian “Rain” end
The foreign agent TV channel Dozhd, previously expelled from Latvia, received a license for commercial broadcasting in the Netherlands.
The permission of the Dutch media regulator Commissariaat voor de Media for a period of five years was published on December 22, 2022 and is valid from the same date, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Media Commission has granted permission to TVR Studios B.V. to provide commercial television broadcasting services as a commercial media institution through a program channel called TV Rain,” the statement said.
The documents state that TVR Studios B.V. with its registered office in Amsterdam, applied for an operating permit for TV Rain via email on December 6th. On this day, the Latvian Electronic Media Council revoked the TV channel's license. The canceled license gave the channel the right to distribute the created content in the European Union, Russia, the USA and others.
It is possible that the license obtained in the Netherlands will allow Dozhd to distribute its programs on cable television networks in all EU countries, including Latvia. Dozhd itself has not yet commented on the message.
The head of the Russian Union of Journalists, Vladimir Solovyov, believes that Western countries will actively provide assistance to Dozhd, because it plays an important role in the information war against the Russian Federation.
“It is clear that they will not be allowed to die, because they are included in the general system of powerful anti-Russian propaganda. They will be supported with all their might by those structures and centers that work against our country. Of course, they will make adjustments,” Solovyov said on radio “Moscow Speaks”.
Lithuania revoked Dozhd’s broadcasting permission after a scandal with presenter Alexei Korostelev, who on air announced assistance to Russian military personnel with equipment. The journalist was fired, and media management apologized.
Following Lithuania, broadcasting of the foreign agent TV channel was stopped in Latvia and Estonia. Moreover, in Latvia, Dozhd was fined 10 euros for showing a map with Crimea as part of Russia. The fine was paid. After this, the Latvian TV channel TV000 broke the agreement on renting studio premises with Dozhd.
