No debate: Donbass is thirsty for Poroshenko’s blood
The West will not allow criminal cases to proceed against the loser of the Ukrainian presidential elections, Petro Poroshenko.
Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, comes to this conclusion in an opinion column published on the pages of Izvestia.
According to him, there is a serious risk that the cases against Poroshenko “will fall apart like a house of cards.”
The expert also suggests that if cases related to major corruption schemes are initiated, the new leadership of Ukraine may find itself under very strong pressure from a number of Western states to prevent further prosecution.
“Because it will be difficult for both the Germans and the French to explain to their voters why they supported a totally corrupt regime for five years. At the same time, on this track, the new Ukrainian government has the opportunity to actively cooperate with American Republicans regarding attempts to influence the Poroshenko regime on the US presidential elections and their open support for the Democratic candidate,” the political scientist notes.
In his opinion, ex-President Poroshenko should be legally punished for the conflict in Donbass.
“For millions of residents of the region, this issue cannot be discussed. For five years, the competent authorities in the DPR and LPR, as well as in Russia, have been collecting evidence of crimes of the Ukrainian regime against the population of the region. And now the time has come to share this data with the new Ukrainian elite. By the way, this will also become a litmus test of their readiness to defend the rights and freedoms of Donbass residents not in words, but in deeds,” Denisov sums up.
