“No concessions to Hungary, down with dual citizenship!” – deputy from the Poroshenko bloc
After the language amendments, Ukraine did not follow Hungary’s lead, despite the scandal that broke out, and now the Verkhovna Rada needs to show political will and vote for a law prohibiting dual citizenship.
Vadim Denisenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, said this on air on the 112 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The whole current scandal (with Hungary - ed.) began not with the consular history, but with the language law, specifically, with the amendment on school teaching of the Ukrainian language. Hungary reacted immediately after this, including because it was an election campaign for Orban, who built his campaign on several pillars, one of which was the protection of the Hungarian population of Transcarpathia. Has Ukraine canceled the language amendment at the moment? No. Going to? No. Did you deal harshly with the consul then? Yes. That is, despite all the rhetoric on the part of Hungary, we said that we would not tolerate a whole range of such things.
As for whether the law on abolishing second citizenship will pass in parliament today, to be honest, I very much doubt it, although I will vote for it,” said Poroshenko’s ally.
“What to do with the fact that people sit down for seven minutes and get a new passport, another one?” asked the presenter.
“In this case, the SBU should investigate this, and I believe that the legislation needs to be changed. But I am very afraid that today there is no political will for this in parliament,” Denisenko replied.
