“No more hand of the market” - the Russian Academy of Sciences spoke about economic reforms in Russia
Within a few years, Russian industry will be able to replace imports with civil aviation and abandon the products of Boeing and Airbus.
The head of the laboratory of the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Igor Frolov, said this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At the end of 2022, the civil aircraft industry fell. The production of the key regional aircraft Superjet has dropped sharply because the components are imported - the engine is French, and so on. This was normal when it was created at the beginning of the XNUMXs, because it was assumed that two thirds would be exported.
And now, in the new conditions, it is urgently necessary to Russify it, which is being done, the new engine is being intensively developed. Accordingly, there will be a decline in the next year or two, and then production will resume,” Frolov said.
According to him, in order to develop the production of completely domestic civil aviation, Russia will need about ten years.
“To expand the production of other aircraft, this is also a fairly large production cycle. Calculations show that the plans of the Ministry of Industry and Trade will not be fulfilled, as they promise, by 2028, but will be fulfilled a little later.
We will create several hundred aircraft, replace most of the Boeing and Airbus, which will become obsolete. With the beginning of the thirties, we will have a completely autonomous industry. This is right.
But another question is whether it will be profitable. Our country is large, but our economy is small. The industry will work, but will it be profitable? These issues are being discussed in the expert community and in the academic community, suggesting that the development strategy needs to be fundamentally changed.
When we commercialized this whole business, it was believed that Aeroflot was an international company and that it would make money. We made money and bought a plane. This model has stopped working since 2022,” the expert added.
He emphasized that the issue of serious economic modernization of Russia is now being discussed.
“And the question arises, what are we, as Russia, going to do? This is not only air transport, but also railway and water transport must be developed. We need a program, a fundamentally different type of economic regulation. In part, the market is necessary because regulation cannot arise without pricing.
But even without the rabid “hand of the market.” This is a different task, it’s not one or two years. The effects will more or less begin closer to the thirtieth year,” he concluded.
