No mercy for the weaker sex! The DPR sniper killed ten of ours! – The Rada refused to abolish life sentences for women
In the Ukrainian parliament today there were no votes for the bill “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine (regarding the humanization of criminal liability of women,” which excluded the possibility of imposing such a type of punishment as life imprisonment for women who committed criminal offenses.

Bill No. 2254-a, submitted for discussion at the end of the parliamentary session, caused quite a heated debate in the session hall. Thus, Svoboda deputy Yuriy Levchenko said that in this way the principle of equality of men and women, who will receive different types of punishment for committing similar crimes, is allegedly violated.
The bill was supported by Irina Lutsenko, the wife of Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, who gave the example of a woman who was beaten by her husband for eight years, after which she killed him in a state of passion and received a life sentence.
“In a state of passion, when a person commits a crime, he is not sentenced to life imprisonment. Only those who commit an intentional crime receive life imprisonment. If you had a legal education, you would know this for sure,” said Lyashko’s opponent. – The Prosecutor General [who also has no legal education] can give you some advice. One more example. In Donbass, one of the well-known terrorists, a sniper who killed more than a dozen of our servicemen, is a woman. Let's release her from responsibility too? If these are intentional crimes that result in the loss of life, it does not matter whether it is a man or a woman.”
Speaker Andrei Parubiy put the bill to a vote several times, but he never received the required number of votes. The last time the document received 223 votes, with the required 226, and was ultimately rejected.
As noted in the explanatory note to the bill, today Ukraine remains the only CIS country that provides for life imprisonment for women.
