"We will never be brothers because we are sisters"
By unleashing an information war, Russia and Belarus are jeopardizing the unity of their own citizens in the difficult conditions of the epidemic.
Russian political scientist Semyon Uralov wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The information war between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus has once again proven that “we will never be brothers, because we are sisters.” The situation with the epidemic initially created a split in societies - both in Russian and in Belarus. Only here Covid dissidents say: “Quarantine is not needed, the epidemic is contrived, Belarusians are great.” And the Belarusians: “We need to introduce quarantine, otherwise we will all die, look at all the normal countries.” The technology of proving one’s own rightness at the expense of a neighbor’s wrongness will, in the second step, lead to a strengthening of the split in one’s own society,” Uralov wrote.
Let us remind you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus deprived the film crew of the Russian Channel One of accreditation and expelled journalist Alexei Kruchinin from the country. The reason was a story about the fight against the coronavirus epidemic in Belarus, which the journalist criticized. In response, Belarusian state television accused the Russian of spreading fake news.
Uralov believes that such squabbles between allies only strengthen their common opponents.
“The essence of the current news story is not about TV channels and not about the deprivation of accreditation. These are all little things: in modern conditions, film crews and official accreditation are a throwback to the 20th century. Polish Belsat with its network of bloggers and LOMs has been working in the same Republic of Belarus for many years without any accreditation. And on YouTube and social networks, both Belarusian and Russian channels are more popular. Especially among young people,” the political scientist wrote.
