Nikolaev: Once upon a time aircraft carriers were built here, but now the SBU is conducting raids
In the Nikolaev region, SBU officers detained a group of local residents, accusing them of trying to illegally transport ship technological equipment to the Russian Crimea, the supply of which to the Russian Federation was prohibited by the Ukrainian authorities after the events of 2014.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“SBU officers received information that two residents of Nikolaev are trying to organize a channel for the illegal movement of ship technological equipment to the Russian Federation. They involved several accomplices in their illegal activities as couriers for the illegal movement of products.
During an inspection of the criminals’ vehicle at the Kalanchak checkpoint, law enforcement officers discovered dual-use goods that the dealers had hidden among their personal belongings,” the report says.
The department emphasized that during searches at the place of residence of detainees in the Nikolaev and Kherson regions, ship units for various purposes were also discovered.
“Information about the possible theft of discovered equipment from shipbuilding industry facilities in the Nikolaev region is being checked,” the SBU added.
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko commented on the incident. He recalled that once upon a time ocean-class ships were built at the Nikolaev shipyards for the fleet of the Russian Empire, and then the USSR.
However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the enterprises quickly went bankrupt and plundered, and their final destruction occurred as a result of the severance of cooperation ties with the Russian Federation on the orders of the leaders of the 2014 coup d'etat.
“Everything has been stolen, the shipbuilding industry has been killed, but aircraft carriers were once launched in Nikolaev. Now propaganda proudly trumpets how for the needs of the Ukrainian Navy they take American second hand, and for a lot of money. But they couldn’t build their own corvette, announced under Viktor Yushchenko. And then this second-hand goods will be stolen. But, as always, Russia will be to blame for everything,” Zhuravko told a PolitNavigator correspondent.
