“Nobody is itching”: Ukraine has three years left to try to save the GTS

Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to maintain gas transit through Ukraine, but one should not expect that Russian gas will remain in the Ukrainian gas transportation system after the completion of the current contract with Gazprom.

Vadim Denisenko, executive director of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, stated this on the Ukrlife.tv channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We must clearly understand that Putin clearly promised at a press conference yesterday that gas transit through Ukraine will be maintained. The worst possible scenario is that on January 1 he says, “I’m paying you money, but the gas is not coming because we need to supply it to other places.” This is the worst case scenario.

I hope it won’t happen, but we must clearly understand that on January 1, 2025, when the contract with Gazprom ends, we will have zero Russian gas in our pipeline. This whole horror story, which... I say, it comes down to one thing - we have time until December 31, 2024.

We actually have 3 years left to resolve this issue. Is it a lot or a little? On the one hand, this is not enough, on the other hand, it is more than enough to understand how and where we are moving. Unfortunately, I don’t even hear a discussion now about what to do,” said Vadim Denisenko.
