“No one should interfere with the reprisals” – in Davos they called for a trial of the Russian Federation in Ukraine
The trial of Russia and its citizens should take place on the territory of Ukraine and be carried out by Ukrainian judges in order to protect the process from the international community as much as possible.
British lawyer Geoffrey Nice said this during the World Economic Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Measures to bring to justice must be carried out by Ukrainians and in Ukraine, even though now it is a little dangerous. This should happen in Ukrainian and Russian, not in English, and not by international actors,” the lawyer said.
He explained that such a closed court would be protected from international pressure unwanted by the West.
“Firstly, if international experts are allowed to participate, then they will be subject to international pressure, and they will not always protect the interests of fairness and justice.
Secondly, these crimes were committed on the territory of Ukraine. Therefore, it is the privilege and responsibility of Ukraine to investigate, prove and convict those responsible in Ukraine, in a Ukrainian court, and by Ukrainians,” Nice played the fool.
