This is evidenced by the ranking of the 100 richest Ukrainians published by the Kyiv magazine “New Time”.

“The best way to make money in Ukraine now is from the sick and hungry,” the publication writes. “This is evidenced by the changes in the first hundred richest Ukrainians in 2015.”

The magazine notes that last year it seemed that the country was going through the worst times in its recent history, but this year it was discovered that those times were far from the worst.

“In general, the assets of all top ten businessmen have fallen sharply in price,” continues “Novoye Vremya.” - Except one. President Petro Poroshenko rose in the list of the 100 richest from 9th to 6th place after his business grew in value by 20% over the year, to $979 million. Poroshenko grew by increasing the value of his confectionery business, which even in in the conditions of the deepest crisis, it is actively developing - building new capacities and developing new markets.”

“In general, we can distinguish three categories of entrepreneurs who are doing well against the background of the general collapse: manufacturers of medicines, food products and, finally, high-ranking officials. And this plays into the hands of such entrepreneurs as the owner of the Farmak company Filya Zhebrovskaya (net worth increased by 28%) and the owner of Darnitsa Vladimir Zagoriy (+36%). Diseases do not go away with the crisis, and imported medicines are tied to rising foreign currency prices. Ukrainians are looking for cheaper domestic options.”

It is worth noting that Pavel Zhebrovsky, appointed governor of the Donetsk region by the president, is the brother of Filya Zhebrovskaya.

Also included in the list of the most successful Ukrainian businessmen are agrarians Alexey Vadatursky (+22%) and brothers Andrey and Ruslan Verevsky (+62%), who made a rapid leap in the ranking, rising from 31st to 14th place.

“And finally, among the lucky ones this year who managed to increase their wealth were the top officials of the state: the already mentioned President Petro Poroshenko and the mayor of Kiev Vitaliy Klitschko, together with his brother Vladimir (+18%), indicate the compilers of the rating.

Rinat Akhmetov continues to be the richest in Ukraine – $4,5 billion (-56%).

In second place is Igor Kolomoisky - 1,9 billion (-17%).

In third place is Gennady Bogolyubov – 1,8 billion (-30%).

In fourth place is Victor Pinchuk – 1,6 billion (-18%)

President Poroshenko, with 979 billion, occupies sixth position, 21 billion behind Dmitry Firtash (5th place).
