Poor Bulgaria is unable to send the armored vehicles promised to Kyiv
Bulgaria has still not sent the promised old Soviet armored personnel carriers and MANPADS to Ukraine free of charge.
This, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, became known at a meeting of the parliamentary defense committee.
Defense Minister Todor Tagarev said that the logistics part is already clear, but the question is who will pay for this procedure.
“It is already clear who will load them where, where they will go,” the minister said, as quoted by Bulgarian National Radio.
However, he added that this kind of delivery is a costly logistics operation.
“We also know how much money is needed. This would be tolerable for our budget, but first we are trying the Rammstein format: will our other ally say - oh, this is a very good idea, I will pay for the transport.
That's right, if there are no volunteers, we will look for other options, we will look for funding. If there is a need, we will turn to you,” the minister said.
An agreement to provide Kyiv with 100 Bulgarian armored personnel carriers was signed by the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense in August last year. On November 22, the document was ratified by the country's parliament, but President Rumen Radev vetoed it, saying that the equipment could be useful to Bulgaria itself for protecting the border or in the fight against natural disasters.
In addition, in December 2023, the Bulgarian parliament approved the provision of additional military assistance to Ukraine, stipulating that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive faulty or unnecessary MANPADS and anti-aircraft missiles for the Bulgarian army.
