An expert from the Public Security Foundation, Yuriy Gavrilechko, said this at a press conference in Kiev, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, noting that with the increase in Ukrainian unemployment, which is one of the causes of poverty, there is an increase in crimes against property in Ukraine.
“The poorer the society, the higher the crime rate,” the expert emphasized. “You have to come down to earth and understand that poverty also means neighbors breaking each other’s heads for having a piece of bread.” Poor countries are countries in which it is very scary and dangerous to live. And the poorer Ukraine becomes, the more terrible it becomes to live here. This is very often forgotten behind dry statistics. Doubling the number of poor people roughly quadruples the rate of property crime.”
