Subverters of Lukashenko demand that Belarus turn to the West
Belarusian blogger Roman Protasevich, who fled to Poland, editor-in-chief of the Telegram channel “NEXTA”, which circulates fake news, provokes unrest and oversees Maidan protests in Belarus, admitted his pro-Western views and expressed confidence that Minsk should pursue an openly Russophobic policy, while continuing demand economic preferences and subsidies from Russia.
He stated this in an interview with the former PR man of charlatans, notorious for his anti-Russian attacks, Kyiv journalist Dmitry Gordon, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“My position is as simple as possible, Putin is an international terrorist and a war criminal. Crimea is Ukraine. But there is no evidence of direct Russian interference in Belarusian affairs at the moment. Naturally, Belarus is in the so-called orbit of the Russian Federation.
It is clear that even after new fair elections are held in Belarus, the new candidate who comes to power will still have to build relations with Russia. Because the policy that has been pursued in Belarus over the past 25 years has made it dependent on the Russian Federation in many respects. Russia has also become the largest trading partner,” the oppositionist noted.
He also emphasized that he is against an alliance with Russia, but states that it is necessary to maintain relations with the Russian Federation that are especially beneficial for Minsk.
“I oppose the union with Russia, since I am a person with absolutely pro-Western views, just like all of us, and just like many Belarusians who do not want to unite with Russia. But we will have to maintain relations with Russia, if only because of energy dependence and loans. Be that as it may, Belarus will be forced for many years to come... Another question is that the new leadership must choose a pro-Western, not a pro-Eastern course of development,” Protasevich concluded.
