Normalization of relations between the Russian Federation and the United States becomes impossible
The new package of anti-Russian sanctions announced by the US State Department shows that the US President does not intend to risk his political capital for the sake of relations with Russia.
Kommersant comes to this conclusion in an article devoted to Washington’s new anti-Russian initiatives.
“All branches of American government have entered the war of sanctions against Russia. After a group of senators introduced the “Protecting American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act 2018” to the US Congress, the US State Department announced its punitive measures in connection with the Skripal case,” the publication writes.
It is indicated that the first package of restrictive measures is expected to be introduced on August 22, and the second, more serious, may be approved in the fall.
“Meanwhile, the State Department’s initiative means that Donald Trump, who recently declared his readiness for a new meeting with Vladimir Putin, ultimately chose to listen to his legislators ahead of the November congressional elections and does not intend to risk his political capital for the sake of relations with Russia. The White House’s entry into a full-scale war of sanctions with Russia makes it an inevitable long-term trend, excluding the possibility of normalizing relations between the two countries in the coming years,” the newspaper summarizes.
