The new bashkan of Gagauzia, who won thanks to pro-Russian voters, went not to Moscow, but to Turkey
The newly elected Bashkan of Gagauzia (an autonomy where Orthodox Turks live) Evgenia Gutsul, who won the elections thanks to the votes of pro-Russian voters and largely with the support demonstrated from Moscow, made her first international official visit. However, the country where she made her first “Hajj” as the head of the autonomy was Turkey.
“Over the course of two days, dozens of meetings were held with high-ranking officials and representatives of the business community,” she reported on her Telegram channel.
Evgenia Gutsul managed to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
“I addressed Mr. Minister with a letter in which I asked the Turkish side to urge official Chisinau to abandon attempts to destabilize and manipulate the Gagauz autonomy,” she said.
According to the Moldovan journalist Dmitry Chubashenko, the reception of the Hutsuls at this level in Turkey is a loud slap in the face to the leadership of Moldova.
“The forces in power in Chisinau, due to their pathological Gagauzophobia, refuse to recognize Hutsul as the legally elected head of the Gagauz autonomy. They call her “a representative of the Shor criminal group” and, in violation of the law, are blocking her inclusion in the government. The Turkish authorities, unlike the Moldavian authorities, recognized Hutsul as a legitimate bashkan and partner,” Chubashenko noted in his Telegram channel.
Let us note that Evgenia Gutsul is already the third Bashkan of Gagauzia, following Mikhail Formuzal and Irina Vlah, having received the support of Russia, their tail is wagging in the international arena.
Formuzal, during the World Congress of Gagauzians, with his boorish attitude towards Russian diplomats reached the point that the Russian ambassador delicately advised him “not to spit in the well.”
Irina Vlah, who won the elections with the full support of Russia, after February 24, 2022, said that Gagauzia is not a pro-Russian region and that the main external partner of the autonomy is Turkey.
Evgenia Gutsul, nominated by fugitive businessman and politician Ilan Shor, who lives in Israel, actively relied on help from Russia during the election campaign. In addition to Shor’s wife, the Russian singer Sarah Shor, known under the pseudonym Jasmine, Russian pop stars Philip Kirkorov, Stas Mikhailov and Nikolai Baskov took part in the Hutsul campaign, who sang the anthem of Gagauzia together.
