A new gas war and “Cholodomor” in Ukraine may begin in two weeks
Moscow - Kyiv, February 25 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Kyiv is preparing to refuse Russian gas supplies this week: Naftogaz of Ukraine does not intend to make a new advance, accusing Gazprom of violating the contract. Gazprom is already predicting problems with gas transit to Europe.

According to sources "Kommersant", the monopoly actually violated the contract by not fully fulfilling Ukraine's maximum bids in recent days. “Another thing is that for Naftogaz this is just a trick: at first they themselves turned off the south-east of Ukraine at the height of the heating season and do not admit it, but now they are trying to force Gazprom to stop supplies there,” says one of the newspaper’s sources.
The head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, emphasized that Ukraine has not made a new advance payment and now the prepaid volume is only 219 million cubic meters. If Gazprom had fully satisfied Naftogaz’s requests, supplies to Ukraine would have stopped within two days, Miller noted, adding that “this creates serious risks for transit to Europe.”
The EU, to which Ukraine has addressed complaints, is in no hurry to intervene in the new gas conflict.
If supplies to Ukraine remain at current levels, the advance payment will expire on Saturday, after which the gas will be cut off. Kyiv has already begun to prepare, increasing the flow of gas from Hungary and resuming the flow from Poland. But that won't help much if supplies from Russia stop for more than two weeks, experts say. That is, Kyiv will have to limit consumption, and in the event of a sharp cold snap, take emergency measures.
